Rate Increase
Dear Patrons of the Strasburg Sanitation and Water District:
The Board of Directors of the Strasburg Sanitation and Water District has approved an 11% increase in water rates, effective July 1, 2025. This rate adjustment will be compounded annually over the next five years to ensure the ongoing reliability and maintenance of our water and sanitation infrastructure, much of which is now over 50 years old and requires significant repairs and upgrades.
A major consideration for this increase is feedback from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, indicating that the District's water rates are significantly below the statewide average. This disparity has limited our eligibility and competitiveness for essential grant funding and favorable loan terms for critical infrastructure projects. By aligning our rates more closely with state averages, we will significantly enhance our opportunities to secure external funding sources, thereby reducing future cost burdens on our patrons.
Additionally, the Board has adjusted several fees as follows:
· System development fees for new or upsized water connections have increased from $4,300 to $5,000 per Equivalent Residential Unit (EQR).
· Sewer connection fees have risen from $3,500 to $4,000 per EQR.
· Late payment fees have been updated from 1% to the greater of $10 or 5%.
We understand the impact of rate adjustments on our patrons and remain committed to transparency and accountability. For further information or to address any concerns, please contact Tracy Griffin, District Administrator, at (303) 622-4443.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
Sincerely,
Board of Directors
